Daniel Sainz for Reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) ¶1. (C) Warsaw will support ECOSOC consultative status for the Democracy Coalition Project (DCP) and will likely support the U.S. position on the Dynamic Christian World Mission Foundation (DCWMF). Elzbieta Gryzio of the MFA's UN and Human Rights Department told us Poland generally supported the inclusion of NGOs in many UN-related activities and foresaw "no problem" with endorsing the DCP. She was less certain about DCWMF, with which she was unfamiliar, but thought Poland would support its deferral to the NGO Committee. ¶2. (C) However, Gryzio observed that such procedural questions would only be a sideshow to the "real challenges" that ECOSOC will face over the next several weeks. She highlighted the draft ministerial declaration on global health and two Middle East-related resolutions, especially the one on Living Conditions in the Occupied Territories, as far more important issues on the Council's agenda, which would probably generate considerable political controversy. Gryzio said Poland intended to steer a moderate course through the discussion of these issues and would likely join any EU consensus that emerged. ASHE
